Health and Safety Services

Health and Safety Policy

Your health and safety policy statement is your statement of intent. It states why you want to manage health and safety and how you are going to do it (in broad terms). It should then cover the arrangements that you have in place for managing health and safety -including naming individuals with key roles. I will help you prepare and implement the policy and supporting arrangements, guiding you on what is necessary based on the size and type of business you have.

Having a written health and safety policy is legal requirement under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Having clearly defined arrangements is a legal requirement under the Act and also the Management of Health at Work Regulations.

Risk Assessments

Risk assessments are the building blocks of health and safety. How can you manage health and safety if you don't know what poses a risk and who may be harmed? It is also your risk assessment which states what you're doing to manage the risk and what more you may need to do.

I will help you to identify the significant risks associated with your workplace and the common sense actions that will need to be taken in order to reduce the risk to an acceptable level.

Risk assessment is a minimum legal requirement. General workplace and activity risk assessments are required under the Management of Health at Work Regulations 1999. Other specific risk assessment may also be required under other health and safety law, such as:

  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH)
  • Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations (DSE)
  • Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • Work at Height Regulations
