Asbestos Awareness
29th March 2012Training
Training is an important element in effectively managing health, safety and fire, which is why the need to provide adequate training is written into health, safety and fire law. In addition to providing general training, certain regulations require that specific training is given.
Sah Sen can provide a broad range of health and safety courses and fire safety training. These may be standard, or bespoke to your company and can be delivered in-house or at a nearby training venue.

Sah Sen is accredited to deliver IOSH Managing Safely courses. Again, these can be delivered at your site where you have more than 4 people seeking to complete the course, or you can attend one of my open courses (see below).
Regardless of the subject or venue, I know that dull training is no training – if the learning isn’t relevant or doesn’t stick, the outcome is a waste of time and money. I deliver carefully chosen and designed material in an engaging way, to make sure topics that can be technical and dull in the wrong hands are interesting and memorable.

Asbestos Awareness Training
The use of asbestos was not banned completely until 1999, that means that any building built before 2000 may have asbestos present. Any worker liable to disturb asbestos while performing their normal everyday work has to receive suitable training as required under Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006. You will need awareness training so you know how to avoid the risks and how to protect yourself. Any worker that is liable to disturb the fabric of a building should receive, as a minimum, asbestos awareness training. This includes all maintenance and building related trades such as caretakers, roofers, plumbers, plasterers, fire alarm and telecommunication engineers. The asbestos awareness training is a half-day training session and will include:
- The properties of asbestos and its effects on health
- The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos materials in buildings and plant
- The general procedures to deal with an emergency, e.g. an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace
- How to avoid the risk of exposure to asbestos
Dates for Asbestos Awareness Training:
- 29th March 2012 from 0930 - 1230.
Tea and coffee will be provided upon arrival.

Good health and safety is good for business. Importantly and uniquely, you'll also be given hints and tips to help you stay out of trouble with the authorities (as an ex-enforcement officer, I can share my experiences of the common mistakes businesses made, as well as some of the myths about health and safety which can cost businesses unnecessarily). The main topics covered will include:
- Introduction to health and safety - the background and the law
- Roles and responsibilities and benefits of good health and safety
- Introduction to risk assessment and accident investigation
- Reviewing some common workplace hazards and what you ought to be doing
